Hello, I'm Mel

I knew I wanted to be a hairdresser from a very young age. Instead of dressing up my American girl dolls and playing house I practiced braids and styles. I knew that salon life was my passion. 

 

I first started at Strands when I was 15. I learned the ins and out of the salon from the business side before doing an apprenticeship under the owner, Shayla. I have found that working my way up in the salon, finishing my apprenticeship in 2019 and working alongside my mentor on a daily basis 7 years later, has given me a great foundation to further my career.

 

After high-school, I went on to further my education, majoring in cosmetic science and formulation design at the University of Toledo. I think that is my biggest attribute. Not only can I do hair on a practical level, I also have knowledge on the chemistry involved in hair care and color theory. 

 

I specialize in keeping your hair happy. By this I mean, I do constant research on the products I think are the best option to keep your hair healthy. Blondes are my speciality, as they tend to do the most damage and I love educating clients on the best products to help keep hair from getting too angry.
